Hand Processes

Collected Object Task - Multiples

As part of the hand processes program we were asked to collect a number of items from the pound shop and bring them into the session with us. My item of choice was a bag a multi coloured elastic bands. We were instructed to create lively and exciting creations with our object and give a list of words in order to work from, i chose the words 'KNOT' something i later regretted!

My idea was simple, use the elastic bands to create a type of plastic hanging, easier said than done.
I began by cutting up a selection of the bands, using a cone of yarn i tediously began attaching the bands individually.

A few hours later, and with horrible smelling hands, here was the outcome!

Brief 2 (Ordered Opposites)

For the second half of the 'ordered opposites' project (crowded/quiet) i plan to continue looking at pattern, texture and colour. For visual research i am going to draw inspiration from natural objects around me, i.e rocks, minerals and bacteria. In the first half of this project i began to look at how texture can create a surface on a object and how this can be translated into stitch and drawings. Now i want to develop these ideas and look at how the shapes and textures can be used to create a number of different ideas. I hope to see how other artists and designers have taken influence from the natural world and injected this into their works.

To further develop my research i plan of visiting the Manchester museum for a second time, as well as trying to locate the texture of the minerals around the city of Manchester. I May experiment with growing my own bacteria, as part of a 2 week series of continuous drawing (as long as this is safe to do so).

My main objective is to create some exciting visual pieces and combine this with weave to get a broad range of samples. Everything will be on the theme of found texture. My concept at the moment is very loose but i hope that over the next 4 weeks my ideas will bring themselves together and the outcome will be an exciting one.
