My take on the URBAN LANDSCAPE

I think i will take my project down the route of found pattern and gathered sources.
I found that whilst thinking about the subject i struggled to get to grips with what i needed to look at, the best way for me to gather information and a broad array of imagery was to get out on the streets with my camera and snap snap snap away.

Possible ideas to focus on...

  • Structure
  • Layout
  • Pattern
  • Layers
  • Repeats
  • Order

The idea of finding pattern/shape around the city centre.

I found scaffolding a particularly interesting subject matter to start my research on. Looking into the different areas of the scaffolding, the different layers that show, i am going to try and incorporate this theme into my work. The small shapes and geometric pattern is very inkeeping with the clothing already created by Dashing Tweeds.

The image to the right was taken by a sheer strike of luck, originally taken to look at the reflection of the light i found the scaffolding itself to hold a wealth of excitement.

Triangular shapes, solid lines.

Menswear collections 2012-2013

Looking at a selection of menswear designs that have made it to the catwalk for winter 2013. It seems bold checks, bright vivid colours and extreme patterns are all in at the moment, Maybe something like this could work well for my swatches, or maybe the palette for warp and weft should be kept simple. Bringing in vivid flashes with the odd yarn selection.

Look into pattern and structure.

Dashing Tweeds!

Live brief - Urban landscape.

Using the theme of urban landscape or one of your own, create a body of samples suitable for Mens outerwear.

Looking at the work of dashing tweeds add a new sense of direction to the existing patterns, try looking at dark navy's, flashes of colour and small scale geometrics.

Catwalk show - Bold colours, shapes and materials.

Fabric swatches (below)

Dashing tweeds are a company that cater for the high end market, all samples produced should be bold, but also have an element of class to them. Silvers, metalics, small shapes etc.

Selecting colour

Taking reference from the previous images gathered in town i have chosen a pallete to use as my warp yarns.
I want to have my warp quite heavy on the colour to the left and then gradually moving to more subtle, neutral colours on theright, showing (similar to the image below) how movement affects colour.

Experimenting with capturing motion..

Day trip to Manchester!

Looking at documenting peoples movements, the way in which my camera will capture the rush is all a matter of trial and error. Exposure/shutter speed is vital for the images to work.

The slower the better i think is the motto!

I want to focus on looking at the way the light that bounces off people is carried over the photo, notice the hints of orange and yellow that seem to move across the image.

Sea, light, Waves, Summer!

Over the summer i was fortunate enough to be able to take a trip to Gran Canaria, whilst there i found myself drawn to the motion of the waves moving and the way the light from the sun bounced and reflected off the seas surface. I want to to and capture the idea of light and motion for this project.
